Ault Wharrie is a grand Edwardian country house which featured in the seminal publication Hermann Muthesius’ “Das Englische Haus”. During the 1950s, it was converted into a nursing home and suffered from many inappropriate alterations and laterally, a lack of repair. Nicoll Russell Studios completed a detailed schedule of repairs and obtained multiple planning and listed building approvals. The client’s objective was to save the house, conserve its many artefacts and return the original house once more into a single family home.
