Nicoll Russell Studios were commissioned to design an acute private hospital for IH Developments Ltd on an elevated site overlooking the Mediterranean at Estepona, Spain. High quality medical care facilities and in-patient accommodation in a non-institutional “hotel-like” environment were key requirements of the brief. The topography of the site was used to advantage, creating a terraced solution providing all 100 private rooms with a balcony and views out to see. Core medical facilities included a 4 theatre operating suite, ITU, CCU, and imaging facilities were placed at the heart of the building at a lower level below an internal top lit landscaped atrium and entrance space. NRS developed the proposals from concept to detailed design stage, including the securing of local statutory approvals.
