Scottish Autism Day Centre, Dundee

Nicoll Russell Studios won a competition to prepare proposals for a new base for Scottish Autism to be located in Dundee. Research and familiarisation visits to other facilities in the Scottish Autism estate led to a design solution focussed around a walled garden sheltering the occupants from the noise and sensory intensity of the urban site. Calm, flowing spaces and flexible private rooms, together with a residential element, were designed to assist young adults in the transition to independent living where school-based and other care support services might reduce.
