West Bromwich is currently undergoing considerable redevelopment as a result of both social changes and the stagnation of its industrial heartland. The site which HMCS (Her Majesty's Court Service) have selected sits between two major redevelopments, occupying a position which will reinforce otherwise fragmented street edges and compliment the construction of an adjoining major educational facility. Its surroundings are subject to a number of masterplans and planning briefs which the design team have had to consider.
Atkins requested that Nicoll Russell Studios develop proposals for this building containing ten courts, their attendant support accommodation and carparking. The proposals have sought to repair the urban realm and to create a highly visible and transparent public environment at this point. The building is laid out to address key desire lines and create new secure public realm around the building.
