The Stormwater tank forms a major component of the River Tay flood defence scheme as well as the redevelopment of the King George V Dock in which it sits. It is deliberately urban and 'massive' in character to compliment the new housing and commercial development that is growing into the area whilst being in keeping with the scale of the historic structures surrounding the dockyard.
Delivered via a PPP project Nicoll Russell Studios worked closely with the client and the Planning Authority prior to being novated over to the contractor Bechtel Morrison. The tank is embedded in the landscape by means of sculptured berms whilst rooftop plant is concealed behind louvres and a lightweight canopy reinterpreting the idea of "base body and cap".
